Reasons to visit lake Annecy in May
May 19th, 2009 by lakeannecyexpert
It is May and spring has well and truly established itself on lake Annecy. The temperatures tend to be mild, often warm up to 22C to 24C. The lake is full of life. You can still see some snowy peaks in the distance but the clod, crisp winter months are now a distant memory on lake Annecy.
Everything is blooming and the lake is warming up nicely moving bird life into overdrive. Song birds everywhere nesting, gathering and showing of their singing skills.
The sky is now busy with paragliders. Both Col de la Forclaz and Planfait are popular take-offs and you can sit forever alongside the lake watching the the colourful pallet gliding in the sky. You can join them too and get a tandem flight. 70 to 90 euro gets you a 10 – 15 min glide with one of the tendem pilots out there. However, beware as the air in May might be still a little to rough for your liking.
Everybody is cycling. It seems to be the national sport and the temperatures are perfect for cycling but also walking, hiking and climbing. There is so much to do. Here my suggestions for lake Annecy activities during April:
- Cycling and mountain biking – temperature ideal for cycling
- Hiking – both lake Annecy, Annecy town and the nearby mountains offer plenty of trails
- Swimming – no warm but because of air temperature a dip in the lake is feasible
- Paragliding – try a tandem flight or book a day with one of the many paragliding school.
- Lake side – most bars / restaurants are now open for business, enjoy a coffee lakeside.
- Sightseeing – perfect time to explore the old Town, have an ice cream or lunch in one of the many canal side restaurants
- Sailing – mild spring winds ideal for sailing beginners
- Shopping – Annecy and the villages around the lake have some great shops, plenty to kill a day or two.
May visit to lake Annecy is probably still not the time to sun bath all day long but that is not the main reason to visit lake Annecy in May. It is about being outside and enjoy on of the many activities on offer.
