Last Saturdays edition of the FT had a feature on lake Annecy, real estate trends, property prices and some general information about the region. Probably worth a read if you are thinking of buying near lake Annecy.

Richard Holledge, the very friendly journalist, writing the piece for the FT, rung me up a few weeks back and we had a chat about life and property ownership on lake Annecy. It earned me a little mention in his piece. I am glad he included my opinion on skiing nearby Annecy in his article:

“However, according to Xaver Matt, who has a house in the village of Doussard near Annecy, “the best solution is to live in Annecy and visit a different ski resort every day. It’s only half an hour to resorts such as Megève, Le Grand-Bornand and La Clusaz”.

“Lake Annecy captured my imagination after I spent a year working in a factory there,” he says. He looked at properties on the west bank of the lake – including a seven-bedroom house priced at a bargain €553,000 – but eventually settled on the east bank, where “the noisiest thing is the birds”. “I decided to buy a house for €242,000 in 2002, redecorated it a little and now rent it out to help cover the costs,” he says. “It’s a brilliant, versatile area in summer as well as winter, with walking, boating and cycling – and not just for the professionals. There is a dedicated cycle track most of the way around the lake.”

Maybe it is worth while mentioning that accommodation near lake Annecy during a the winter season is a lot less expensive than in most ski resorts. For those who don’t mind the 30 min car drive, there are financial benefits staying somewhere near lake Annecy, in addition to better accommodation value espaecialy for alrger groups and families.

You can read the entire article on the FT website. Just follow this link. It contains some very useful information and views on lake Annecy property.

As I always said, lake Annecy is a 365 day per year destination. Every season has got something to offer. There is more to lake Annecy than just the summer season.
