Annecy rentals hit by UK recession?
Jun 10th, 2009 by lakeannecyexpert
I have been asked over the past months how my holiday lets are affected by the UK and global recession. Difficult question to answer, anecdotal evidence suggests yes. I still have two weeks available during the summer peak holiday period for my house (Maison Shanti), which is the first time since I started letting in 2002. I know other owners that are in a similar situation.
On the other side, lake Annecy is very diverse holiday region. It caters not only for one type of holiday maker but for many activities and variety of tasts. It is protected that way. It also has a very finite capacity given the limited amount of land and accommodation around the lake. The region has not suffered from over development in recent years. There are no empty holiday resort developments
The euro has recovered a little, which helps lowering holiday expense compared to 6 months back across the euro zone. You can drive from the UK to lake Annecy in less than 10 hours. You don’t need to buy expensive flights and car rental in advance. It is possible to go last minute at any time.
Rental rates on lake Annecy have always been at similar levels to Paris and the Cote d’Azur do to expensive property prices in the region. Lake annecy has never beeen a budget holiday destination, but there are bargains to be had not just during a recession. My house is available from £450/week, sleeping seven to start with.
